ME AND EARL AND THE DYING GIRL is A Must Watch

Winner of the 2015 Sundance Grand Jury Prize and the Audience Award, ME AND EARL AND THE DYING GIRL is the story of Greg Gaines (Thomas Mann), an awkward high school senior whose mom forces him to spend time with Rachel - a girl in his class (Olivia Cooke) with whom he hasn't spoken to since kindergarten - who was just diagnosed with cancer.

Beautifully composed, scripted, and perfectly cast, ME AND EARL AND THE DYING GIRL is a coming-of-age movie with uncommon charm and insight. In one of the most profound experiences I have had all year through my film watching, ME AND EARL AND THE DYING GIRL solidifies that there will forever and always be a few hidden independent films that may go off the radar, after their initial release. So, I recommended to young filmmaker should grab the DVD, because it's really worth your time. Here's why:

Whats "Something in The Way" Depicted About Indonesia

"Something in The Way" is a films by Teddy Soeriaatmadja in 2013. It might be considered too late to make a review by now, but if you happened to stumbled upon this article, I hope you get the movie however you can. Especially when you tried to understand what really happened in Indonesia in general. Here's why and what:

Faith who usually got compromised
Ahmad (Reza Rahadian) is a night shift taxi driver who faithfully perform everything Islam told him to. His strong sense of faith semiotically described in the film thru the choosing of Tasbih as the accessories he'd hung in his cabs. But still, he'd pushed aside his faith at any chances by committing sins everyday, such as watching porn and masturbate. He even let his passenger had sex with a hooker in the cabs he's driving, in turn for money.

The Art of Giving Zero Fucks

Lately, i've been arguing with two of my film maker juniors for their view on LGBT. Both of them seems strongly rejected the ideas that regardless of gender, another person may attracted to same sex counterparts. Their hate seems so strong to the points that i'd call them homophobes. Even in the end, both of them preached about morality. Well, nice work on arguing with stuck up people, contra-productive right? I know. The truth is i even don't think that i feel like to defend LGBT. I could even care less to their opinion if not only for the fact that:

(i) they was my early favorite juniors
(ii) i saw potential in them as filmmaker

And hearing them being so mainstream to an environment where being antimainstream is glorified, i can't help but feeling that i've failed them. To the point that i'm feeling what Obi Wan Kenobi felt when he thought he failed Anakin Skywalker.

But apparently, after so damn long consideration and a minor accidents, i was wrong.

Indonesia: A Place where People Personal Life is The Subject of The Clashing Interests

The long title? Sorry, can't help.

So basically the headline today in Indonesia is about LGBT. For so long, this community tends to remain silent, living their own happy whatever life in the shadow, and the government seems to turn on the blind eye on them. Alhough there are several form of underground resistance, such as indie filmmaker who dare to touch the subjects (and they really do), but i think that they prefer to keep to themselves. They knew that as a nation who based it's foundation on religion, Indonesia is not a place to loudly express their opinion. And i respect them for keeping to themselves.

But that's about to change.

Indonesia as Film Country, Can You Imagine That?

Today, the government just published the new economy package. There are few things worth mentioning though. But above all of that, there are good news: the government finally seeing film as potential industry. So, what's the new policy's about?

1. Foreigners now are free to open new cinemas in Indonesia

For so long, Indonesian cinema has been controlled by single entity. There are literally no competition. Thus, Indonesian films industry was subjected to oligarchy. Now, finally there's a chance where the big player will be challenged by even bigger player. Since the government now opening one hundred percent their access to foreign theater player, which is i believe, even bigger than Indonesia.

My Daily Vent: Why Marriage in Indonesia is Painful

Gong Xi.

Do you know that the Lunar New Year is a national holiday in Indonesia? Well, i think that this fact alone sums up about how Indonesian embrace the diversity. Although the truth behind the past is indeed bitter, but let's not go that way.

So, i spent my Lunar Year holiday to visit two of my friends wedding party. Both of them are my best friend, and i couldn't be happier for them. I am ecstatic. I even literally crashing the flood, only to attend their parties in time. But without any intention to disregard their feeling, i still think that: "Marriage is a pain in the ass".

Sejarah Jalan Daendels dan Efek Domino (NARASI)

Seru sekali jika Anda membaca mengenai sejarah.
