ME AND EARL AND THE DYING GIRL is A Must Watch

Winner of the 2015 Sundance Grand Jury Prize and the Audience Award, ME AND EARL AND THE DYING GIRL is the story of Greg Gaines (Thomas Mann), an awkward high school senior whose mom forces him to spend time with Rachel - a girl in his class (Olivia Cooke) with whom he hasn't spoken to since kindergarten - who was just diagnosed with cancer.

Beautifully composed, scripted, and perfectly cast, ME AND EARL AND THE DYING GIRL is a coming-of-age movie with uncommon charm and insight. In one of the most profound experiences I have had all year through my film watching, ME AND EARL AND THE DYING GIRL solidifies that there will forever and always be a few hidden independent films that may go off the radar, after their initial release. So, I recommended to young filmmaker should grab the DVD, because it's really worth your time. Here's why:

The story
Following Greg, Earl, and Rachel, this film is about two friends who decide to have fun and take care of Rachel after she has been diagnosed with leukaemia. It may sounds as sappy as THE FAULT IN OUR STAR could be, but the fun fact is: it's not. Even though the narative and cinematics is not that sappy, and even somewhat borderline cheerful as EASY A could be, yet it could leave a huge emotional heft as big as THE FAULT IN OUR STAR. Everything from the cinematography to the clever scripting, this film showcases everything that very few films ever do nowadays, which is display true art. Each frame and camera movement helped to explain what was going on throughout the picture, and the final act has things come together that you would have never thought was relevant to the story.

You can learn so much from the characters because the main characters is the young filmmaker in true art and Avant Garde who find an obligation to complete a goodbye film for their dying friend. First, it broaden my understanding that Avant Garde is not a genre to be taken lightly, in contrary to some of my acquintance who tends to classify their film in Avant Garde when in truth their Fiction film fell flat to the audiences. Second, it kind of rejuvenated my dying flame to making films. Because of reasons.

The director style
Directed by Alfonso Gomez-Rejon with remarkable control, creativity and fervor, the film is equal parts a homage to classic cinema and a heart-wrenching romantic comedy with earned emotion.

Gomez-Rejon is a great director who clearly loves films and has a deep knowledge of the language of Cinema - his visual compositions are just wonderful, and this is a deliciously captivating story that understands the value of honest Art as opposed to sappy life lessons.

Gomez-Rejon's ME AND EARL AND THE DYING GIRL kinda remind me of Jean Pierre Jeunet AMELIE in term of narative and Wes Anderson MOONRISE KINGDOM in term of cinematics.

This is a must see, especially for young filmmaker. Odd, unique, and emotionally powerful, ME AND EARL AND THE DYING GIRL is great filmmaking at it's finest. Superb!
