Why Filmmaking Damn Need Pre-production

There's a good definition of Pre-production that I casually grabbed from Google:

"Pre-production is the process of fixing some of the elements involved in a film, play, or other performance. There are three parts in a production: pre-production, production, and post-production. Pre-production ends when the planning ends and the content starts being produced".

To be honest, i'm too lazy to manufacture any new definition but I think from the statement above, we can underline something really important:

Feminism and Indonesian Law Enforcement through ZOOTOPIA

ZOOTOPIA is the latest work of Walt Disney Animation Studios. It was directed by Byron Howard, Rich Moore and written by Jared Bush. And boy, i was starstruck. Because they cleverly coated so many semiotics content inside a simple animation film. It tells the story of a modern metropolis where mammals, separated by cruel history of animal food chain, symbolized by predator and prey, which lead to many unexpected conflicts. It kind of describe today society where race and religion often become the source of many dispute.

ZOOTOPIA was rated PG by the MPAA. So this film is safe to be watched by all ages, especially children. Thus, this movie might be very relevant as a media education to educate children about diversity: whatever the race, species, whats matter is inside.

And there's hidden easter inside this film: Feminism. Especially in law enforcement.

THE DANISH GIRL is a Terrifying Film

Tom Hooper is amazing. His KING SPEECH is amazing. And his newest work, THE DANISH GIRL, is equally amazing. Amazing indeed, but THE DANISH GIRL is thousandfold terrifying for an Indonesian citizen standpoint. Especially because THE DANISH GIRL speak about LGBT movement which is still considered a taboo to the point that mentioning it will only sparks controversy. And yet, THE DANISH GIRL sucessfully humanize transexual. It perpetuates the statement about how film is an effective media in Agenda Setting.

Oligarchy in Indonesia Cinema Industry

There is something that lately piqued my interest. It's about oligarchy in Indonesian film industry. I noticed it first during the speech on national television last month where Pramono Anung, the Top Brass of Indonesian Goverment Secretary, mentioned that Indonesia's Tenth Economy Package Policy was  initiated to cut the chain of oligarchy and cartel of cinema industry.

Oligarchy and cartel.

Wow, those words is like the grand combination that i thought only existed in the Quentin Tarantino films, NOT on the industry that produced the films. And yet it happens in Indonesia. Perhaps this contribute to the reasons why Indonesian film get super stagnant in the past long years.

Statistically speaking

Based on Pramono statement, which i assume is a government legal statistic, Indonesia only have at least 1.117 cinema to serve 250 million people. So basically the cinema only cover 13%. And ironically 87% of those cinema only existed in Java island and 35% portion of those is saturated in Jakarta (Indonesia capital city). It's kind of a waste of market since in my opinion, people of the remote islands in Indonesia, lets say Borneo, Sumatra, and Sulawesi, is basically richer than people in Java. But even so, this seemingly wasteful practice is not really a waste. Actually, because of the big portion of those cinema is being held by no more than 4 companies, so, it can't be helped if they don't feel the urgency of competition.

So here comes the oligarchy part.

Social Anxiety Treatment? Do Sports

It's been almost 10 days since i first started my social anxiety self treatment. It might sounds a little bit cocky, but in all those days, i can conclude that the most comfortable treatment i can do to suppress my social anxiety is by doing sport. Mine was swimming. Here's why you should try it too.

The Wisdom of High Heels in JURASSIC WORLD

There's something in JURASSIC WORLD that really bothers me. Up to now, in my sleeptime, i always fall into insomniac mode just for thinking about it. And the morning after, i'll instantly regret my sleepless night. And by writing this post, i invite you to this rollercoaster. Here we go.

The dilemma started by a question: why in the world did Claire (Bryce Dallas Howard) thinking that its okay for her to wear high heels when she's herding a damn T-Rex? It's a fucking T-Rex and she was like, Beyonce 'who runs the world'-ing it.

ROOM (2015), Brie Larson Totally Deserve Her Oscar

I've just watched ROOM (2015) because there was literally horde of news that its lead actress, Brie Larson won her Oscar for her role here. Thanks god, it still aired on cinema. My opinion: man, Larson do deserve her Oscar. ROOM is so impactfull that it's kinda reminded me of the reason why I love watching movie in the first place. Here's why:

The narative
The story, damn. It's intense and rich at the same time. Both highly suspenseful and deeply emotional, ROOM is a unique and touching exploration of the boundless love between a mother and her child, following 5 years old Jack (Jacob Tremblay) and his Ma (Brie Larson) that escape from the enclosed surroundings that Jack has known his entire life.

I'm amazed
