Looking For Cash to Fund Your Film Production? Try Crowdfunding

You might be familiar with crowdfunding platform. It is a platform such as Kickstarter and Indiegogo, that enable millions of people to fund a concept proposed by another user. Some thriving, some failing. But nowadays, those crowdfunding platform often get associated to startup, crazy idea in tech, gadget and engineering. But the virtue of crowdfunding should not be limited to those. Then what else?

Party
A moron (or perhaps a genius) named Zack Danger Brown started an uproar when his crowdfunding project: a party which involved with the creation of an ultimate potato salad recipes, skyrocketing in Kickstarter. Total 6,911 backers pledged $55,492 to help bring this project to life. He's mayhaps starting a potato salad as a joke (only god knows) but he certainly ended it in large amount of sums. For a potato.

With his new crowdsourced fortune, Zack says he will create potato salad merchandise, a potato salad recipe book and even host a potato salad party during the Labor Day weekend where “the whole Internet is invited”.

And the crazy things is, it actually generated a trend. Others have followed his lead, like a British Kickstarter user who created a campaign to make coleslaw following potato salad’s success.

“Potato Salad is basically just a fallback for when people with taste have eaten all the coleslaw. Don't let these potato lovers win,” the creator wrote.

Statue
"Detroit Needs A Statue of Robocop" successfully raised $67,436. By the title itself we can safely assume that this man is clearly a moron (or perhaps, super genius) who think that the city is in a dire needs to built a statue of Robocop somewhere during the vicinity. And the crowd loved it. They share the same opinion that Detroit needs a statue of Robocop.

... God, please help this world.

Films
Indie film by definition is a film that was funded by non-mainstream source of capital such as the mass, and even the filmmaker himself.  This very definition itself should means that indie film is suitable to crowdfunding platform. Then what else stopping you to use them?

Me? uh, something called laziness and other lame excuses. Don't mind me.

So basically, anything interesting will be warmly received by the crowd. Thus resulted in the successfull campaign. So whenever you decided to try crowdfunding, then i can assume that you need to make your campaign interesting.

For Indonesian people, you should try Kitabisa and Wujudkan, a crowdfunding platform that specially tailored to Indonesia. I'll try when i had time.
